An immediate start is required working at Waikeria Prison just out of Te Awamutu, so available to New Zealand residents or temporary visa holders already in the country only. (Due to current flexibility around temporary Visa conditions, you may be eligible to work as a Steel Fixer or for our company even if this contradicts what your original temporary Visa requirements were).

Preference will also be given to those with a valid drivers' licence, as this is a requirement of a large project, we will be working on in 2020.

A good understanding of Health and Safety is required, we will provide both extensive in-house training, as well as external training such as Site Safe, ConstructSAFE and First Aid training.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTS ARE A REQUIREMENT OF THIS POSITION, along with the ability to pass ongoing random drug tests.

Key Responsibilities

Providing technical expertise and translating technical knowledge to support dairy farmers to achieve best practice.
Working closely with the regional Farm Source team to support our farmers’ preparation for future on-farm requirements.

About You
Possessing strong knowledge of dairy farming and environmental best practice, you will ideally be degree qualified in Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Sustainability or similar. Coupled with your technical expertise, you will have the ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders, enjoy working as part of a team and be able to effectively influence change.

Other success enablers include:
Strong knowledge of on farm systems, effluent and nutrient management
Proven organisational abilities and the ability to work autonomously
Demonstrated experience working in the agricultural industry within a technical advisory role
Working knowledge of environmental regulations and their implications on the dairy industry

Internship Opportunities

We have positions available in Christchurch, Hamilton, Nelson, Palmerston North, Gisborne and Wellington.

To be available to attend the Induction Programme on 23 and 24 November in Wellington.

Summer Intern 2020: Low Nitrogen Project

DairyNZ has an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate student to contribute to our 7 year LowN project. This summer internship will see you gain valuable experience in testing DairyNZ’s Molly cow model N metabolism predictions using a comprehensive data set. With your aptitude for working with data and computer programmes, you’ll be setting up and running our Molly model with R and C++code.

This internship will give you insight into cow physiology and nitrogen as a key environmental issue. You’ll gain knowledge into how we can mitigate nitrogen leaching including modelling tools and best practice models.

This internship will also explore Mātauranga Māori. The exact details of this will be planned with the successful intern and could include for example, how farming practices have impacted Māori cultural practices.

Key requirements:

- Able to follow instructions and processes
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable dealing with large data sets
- Current undergraduate student, studying computer science, environmental science or similar discipline
- Basic foundation in statistics, data analysis and report writing
